I CHARGE BY THE AWESOME NOT THE HOUR — WHICH IS TO SAY I CHARGE A PROJECT RATE.
All project rates include the purchase of stock images, up to three rounds of revisions, and the delivery of print-ready files.
WHY NOT HOURLY?
Not charging hourly means that our timeline is only constrained by your printing deadline not by a budget. This allows us the freedom to dive in and explore new creative ideas ideas without either party worrying about “wasting time”. It’s important that you are comfortable with the developmental process (that’s why in the Creation stage I provide you with a design critique worksheet that helps you make a complete evaluation of the design), and that we have plenty of opportunities to communicate. I believe the best design work comes from a place of research and play — I don’t want to give you the first idea, I want to give you the best idea.
And you’ll never be surprised by the bill at the end!
Each project is unique, which is why I get a lot of details from you before offering a quote, but I know how hard it can be to figure out if your contractors will fit your project budget if you don’t know anything about their rates. Below is a list of the basic price points for the services I offer:
Covers: $300 – $700 CAD
Prices vary depending on format (ebook, paperback, or hardcover with jacket).
Interior Layouts: $500 – $1000 CAD
Prices vary depending on format and type of book. For example, a cookbook is more expensive than a short novel because it is more labour intensive to layout.
The Publishing Package: $2500 – $3500 CAD
Prices will vary depending on the format and type of book. This package includes the complete book design, an editorial hookup (if needed), tips on how to make your self published book a success right out of the gate, a concrete walkthrough of your printer options, a few marketing design goodies (including swanky social media graphics), and everyone’s favourite: you never have to touch the files, I deliver them directly to your printer.
À la Carte Marketing Design: $50 – $500* CAD
Most marketing items such as bookmarks, posters, and social media graphics are $50 – $100 each. Custom author blogs and email marketing campaigns are bigger budget items.
*Please note, design does not include cost of printed product.
I believe in building community, giving back, and sharing the joy of books with the world. I dedicate a percentage of my annual income to literacy-based charities. Donations are made annually in the country I have spent the most time in that calendar year.
My current donation is headed to The Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation's Wall of Hands project.
